This one-man-band for media art and video journalism is performed by Mirko Kubein.
Web video since 2000? Yes, it’s true. Already one year after I started my studies in media art and design at the Bauhaus University Weimar in 1999 together with some others we founded an experimental lab for audio-video-streaming called Pingfm. There we did nearly hundred webcast sessions in collaboration with international partners. Although the video quality was pretty poor we early decided that all our videos are made for full screen.
Based on that experiences with streaming media I created the experimental streaming film Losing A Highway in 2002 which luckily received some awards.
After this success I turned to more “offline” filmmaking for awhile. That resulted in my experimental short films Play For Today, Zabriskie Point and my graduate thesis film Der Statist / A Walk-On.
Since video podcast came up I am producing videos for the internet again. I restarted with several experimental mini series in 2006: Film Critic Film, Jesus Loves You, Wohnzimmer WM, Interfilm Berlin and Minutes in Russia. I professionalized my activities in 2007 when I became freelance video producer for Icon Impact and Sightseeker Media.
After my time as senior editor and video producer for the online video magazine WatchBerlin in 2008 I have worked for different clients like Electronic Beats TV, KNA, The European, Checkdisout, Volvo, Die Welt… I am writing, shooting, editing, converting and publishing the videos they like to have.
Additional to that commercial stuff I have co-founded the vimeo group The Pictures Don’t Move and initialized the online video authors collective Filmforest.
But primarily I am taking care of my family.
